people can change paths completely, 180°s are never off the table
a fact I love about Jerry Rubin, the american yippy and renown anti-war activist:
in 1967, he and Abbie Hoffman tossed dollar bills from the balcony of the New York Stock Exchange to protest Capitalism
in 1980, Jerry Rubin took a job as a stockbroker on Wall Street and proclaimed himself as "one of the most famous stockbrokers in the country" in a quote to the New York Times

here's another one:

Philip Sternheimer, a wall street financier, left his job as a partner at private equity giant Hellman & Friedman in march 2023 to play poker full-time
in june 2025, he won his first wsop gold bracelet in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Championship
work
obsession is key
when building something -and especially a business- obsession is key
sure, this is just another way to say that hard work pays off
but i really think its not just about hard work, it is also about focus in the focal sense, putting most of the effort on one -or few- things

what i'm saying is so unoriginal that i always had this in mind but it really stuck me when i visited the factory of a company with my school
(not saying when, i'll have to obfuscate a few details of this story in order ot stay anonymous)
this company was somewhat associated with an iconic part of my country
the factory was simply stuning, absolutely state-of-the-art
i was really blown away by its beauty, how well-thought it was and how clean the complete thing looked
the few employees and partners they had must have put thousands and thousands of hours into thinking this over and it showed

unsurpisingly the company had amazing successes in the last few years
thoses successes must have helped to pay for the great new factory but i'm also conviced they show how focused and obsessed they are and that makes all the difference

i realize how terrible blogging this vagueblogging is, unfortunately this has to be more of a reminder for myself than an actual blog section
i'm sure anyone reading has many of great examples that back this musing up anyway !
